William Gary Lynch

William Gary Lynch of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Savannah, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 6, 2025. 

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1947 to the late Loren Dale Lynch and Grace Virginia Lynch Froelicher, 

William was a 1965 graduate of South Hills Catholic High School in Pittsburgh and a 1971 graduate of West Virginia University. Following college graduation, he began his early career with the West Virginia Department of Transportation. He designed many of the beautiful roadside rest areas, including the West Virginia Park beneath the New River Gorge Bridge area. 

   He moved to Savannah in 1978 and served as a civilian employee of the United States Army Corp of Engineers. He devoted   much of the rest of his career managing various Corps projects, including construction of the massive, Richard B Russell hydroelectric dam, completed in 1985. He received numerous awards and was especially proud having received “Team Member of the Year” in the Engineering and Scientific Fields on two separate occasions during his tenure with the Corps. He retired after 28 years as the Project Manager of the Richard B. Russell Dam. 

   He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. During his forty year long association with the parish, he was a volunteer and working partner and friend of the pastor, Father Patrick O’Brien. Will was instrumental in the design and site plans for the new parish, St Peter the Apostle Church. He received the distinguished Gartland award in 1993. Following retirement from the Corps, he continued his work with the parish. He had numerous hobbies, including as docent for the historic Davenport House in Savannah and playing in several country music groups. 

In 2015, he and his wife, retired to the beautiful North Georgia mountains, where they continued their musical aspirations. William fulfilled his dream to fully restore his vintage 1957 Matchless motorcycle. He was very excited to have placed second in the Vintage European North Georgia Motor show in 2018. 

   William was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was such a kind and caring man and so enjoyed family and friends. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 33 years, Reinee Johnson Lynch, (Blairsville,) daughters, Brenda Meyers, Regina Lynch, Port Wentworth, son, Eric (Jennifer) Midway, Georgia, Brent Bell, (Diane) Boonville, North Carolina, Alicia Bell Etter (Brian) Cocoa, Florida, his beloved brothers, (Bob) Robert Dale Lynch (Anne), Haymarket Virginia. Two stepbrothers, Jim Froelicher (Peggy), Punta Gorda, Forida, Dr. Victor Froelicher, Half Moon Bay California, one stepsister, Marion Flaherty, East Greenbush, New York and seventeen grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. And his best four-legged friend “Rocky.” 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Union County Humane Society or Tunnel to Towers Foundation. 

Visitation will be 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, with his longtime friend, Rev. Patrick O’Brien, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery.
